I'm looking for text of CNN, BBC… programs

I’m an italian student and I would like to improve my english. I have
satellite TV and I really appreciate if somebody could help me to find the
written text of some programs of BBC, CNN or any english-speaking satellite
TV.
I’m looking for the text of the news, or science documentaries, ecology,
computer.
For me it’s enough to have the text of the news once or twice a week, just
to start; in future, it would be wonderful to have a "language-net" made up
of students who wants to improve languages in this way; for instance, I
could write the text of some of the italian news broadcasted on satellite,
for people who want to improve italian.
Join this language-net! It could be fun!

college-level email project

My class and I are looking for another class to exchange email.  We are
an advanced level class at Baruch College, City University of New York.
There are 20 students in the class of various nationalities, the majority
of them are Chinese.  This is their first year of college.  Many of them
attended high school here in New York City.  The class is linked with a
Psychology class, so our class will be discussing many issues in this
area.  The focus of the ESL class is writing, they have to pass a
university-wide exam in December.

If you have an ESL class that would be interested in working with us,
please email me.

Thank you.

Question re speaker's use of "imbue"

I’m preparing a newsletter article about commencement ceremonies for a
graduate school of medical sciences–in which I include the following
quote from the remarks of one of the student speakers:

"Today, our medical colleagues [receiving the M.D. degree] have pledged
the Hippocratic oath. We [Ph.D. students] silently imbue a Socratic
one…."

Since I was bothered by the speakers usage of "imbue" in this case, I
consulted my dictionary–which seems to indicate that the active voice
here is incorrect; that the correct usage would be in the passive voice:
"We silently are imbued with a Socratic one."

My questions are:

(1)

Does anyone think that the student’s usage is okay — and can be quoted
without being an obvious error?

(2)

If it’s an error, should I use "sic" or just change it to the passive
(without informing the speaker)?

(3)

Or did the speaker really mean "imbibe"?

Would appreciate some opinions on this.

Thanks.

P.S.–Are there any other newsgroups where this type of question would be
more appropriate?

The Internet as a LINGUISTIC SAMPLE, anyone?

Hi all,

does anyone know if researchers somewhere are using the Internet (WWW or
Usenet) as a linguistic sample for descriptive purposes (as opposed to
normative ones). I think this is a huge resource, and I would be surprised
if language scientist were not using it.

I am writing a short article about this for a Swedish newspaper and would
appreciate all tips. Please answer directly to me.

Best regards

Dictionary of Idioms, Phrases???

Hello,

Can someone point me to a website containing an on-line dictionary of
English idioms and phrases?  That is, it should define "Money talks"
as well as non-sentences expressions like "behind the eight ball".

Please, any help would be much appreciated!
